First of all, some minor disadvantages to living with an American family include both a lack of privacy and little opportunity to be independent. （第一句话，主题句，提示以下要讨论的两个问题）For instance, the foreign student may find that the family expects him to join them in group activities such as watching television and going on picnics. At times, however, he might enjoy staying in his room to read or to write letters to his family or friends. Another drawback to living in an American home involves the possibility that the family may treat the student like a child. 写好 托福 作文的最后一个要素，也是考生最难在短时间内提高的，就是语言上要准确、流畅、丰富。准确是最基本的，要求考生的文章在拼写、语法、用词以及搭配上没有严重的错误。流畅是指文章整体的行文要一气呵成，逻辑进路清晰可见。在托福写作中，往往要求考生在写作时多运用transitions（过渡词）来连接句与句、段与段，这能在相当程度上增加文章的整体流畅感。这些transitions包括：表示陈述顺序的（first, second, finally等）、表示并列或者补充的（also, similarly, likewise等）、表示递进的（furthermore, moreover, additionally, besides等）、表示转折的（however, still, nevertheless, contrarily等）、表示让步的（admittedly, concededly等）、表示举例的（for instance, for example, to illustrate）、表示复述的（in other words, that is to say等）以及表示提示结论或者结果的（therefore, thus, accordingly, consequently等）。在做到准确、流畅的基础上，语言的丰富多变是体现一个考生语言能力的重要指标，在同一篇文章里，句式不能过于简单，用词也要避免重复，适当的时候，可能还要运用一些修辞手法，当然，这些都不是能在朝夕之间就可以做到的。
